Description of Practice
I work with individuals in short-term counselling and medium to long-term psychotherapy.
Number of Years of Professional Practice (Psychotherapy)
Prior to commencing private practice in 2013 I was a Telephone Counsellor (TC) at Lifeline Canberra for 8 years, which also included being a TC supervisor, that involved guiding, supporting and advising other TCs, for 3 years, and a Small Group Facilitator providing support, feedback and guidance to new trainees.
As I believe that every person needs to be understood for his or her unique life experiences and personal history, I work therapeutically in an empathically attuned and relational way with a holistic body/mind approach (integrating talk therapy with body awareness), which allows for the tailoring of therapy to meet the specific needs of each person.
As trust in the therapeutic relationship develops, we will work together to explore a person’s habitual patterns and unique way of being in the world, including thoughts, beliefs, feelings, emotional and somatic (body) responses, to identify those that are causing pain or confusion due to difficult situations that have occurred in a person’s life, such as single overwhelming events, for example the breakdown of an intimate relationship, and/or the culminating effects of childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, stress and anger management, alcohol and/or drug addiction and suicidal thoughts.
This collaborative partnership can assist an individual to feel appreciated, understood and accepted, and enhance one’s capacity for self-reflection, provide an opportunity to develop the ability to manage and/or resolve physical symptoms and emotional distress and gain a deeper understanding of one’s self and others.
Gaining a new perspective on relationships and patterns of experience can lead a person to have improved self-worth and increased self-agency in personal and work relationships, and to develop a greater connection between one’s mind and body with a greater capacity and resilience to deal with stress and emotional states.
My goal is to provide a warm, safe, non-judgmental and confidential space for you to explore whatever aspects of your life you wish to enhance your mental, emotional, physical, and relational health to enable you to lead a productive and more fulfilling life, with a greater sense of well-being and purpose.
I have a commitment to ongoing training and regular supervision.
